NWEA testing starts next week, please see the message below from Mr. Smith regarding the current schedule and expectations of our students:

Dear Middle School Families,

In our school-wide effort to make learning student-centered, collecting data about each student’s progress is needed to inform our decisions. One tool we use to get a personalized, real-time snapshot of your child’s strengths and areas of needed support is the NWEA test (also known as the Measurement of Academic Performance “MAP” test). This test is not to be confused with the M-Step test given in the spring.

The NWEA test is self-adjusting, which means, as your child takes the test and responds to questions, the test adapts to precisely measure progress and growth for each individual student. The results are available within 24 hours, so teachers can use each student’s data to make choices about instruction or groupings for targeted learning experiences. While we agree that testing is one part of the whole picture of a learner, this adaptive test is an opportunity to get accurate data for each student.

This is not a test that a student can “study for”, so you may be wondering what you can do from home to best support your child. Our testing window begins next week:

Math NWEA Testing window - Monday, January 10 through Friday, January 14, 2022.

ELA NWEA Testing window - Tuesday, January 18 through Monday, January 24, 2022. There is no school on Monday, January 17, 2022.

We are asking that you send your child to school well-rested and ready to test and if at all possible, avoid absences. You can encourage them to give their best effort and not rush to finish. Thank you for your continued support.

Sincerely,

James Smith
Kenowa Hills Middle School Principal

REDEFINED

Our Personal Mastery educational experience has redefined education and has gained attention around the state and nation. Personal Mastery provides your child with personalized attention from teachers. Instead of teaching to a broad group of students without understanding of their individual strengths and weaknesses, Personal Mastery allows teachers to interact with students individually or in small groups to help them better address their weaknesses. In this way, we strive to help your child reach their full potential.
