Health Screener

Please continue to complete the screener even if your student is not coming to school. This helps us determine the names of the students AND staff that did NOT complete it AND are here at school. THANK YOU! We so appreciate your continued support during these unique circumstances.

KHHS 2nd Semester Face-to-Face/Virtual Option

As we move closer to the 2nd Semester, you once again have the opportunity to decide whether you want to have your child attend our 100% Virtual option (Kenowa Hills Online Learning Academy KHOLA) or our 100% Face-to--Face (F2F) option. Please let us know which option you would like to choose for your student NO LATER than November 20, 2020, by completing the google form emailed home. If you choose 100% Virtual (KHOLA) or 100% Face-to-Face (F2F), you are committing to that option through the entire 2nd Semester. If you have questions or need clarification before choosing the Face-to-Face option or the Virtual Option, please contact the High School Main Office at 616-784-2400.

ALL students must have this form completed for them. As a reminder, this form must be completed no later than Friday, Nov 20th.

Senior Ad and Baby Photos

Senior Parents,

Are you interested in purchasing a Senior Recognition/Baby Ad for your student in the yearbook this year? If so, please follow the link below to purchase. These must be submitted by January 29. If you have any questions, you may contact Ms. Hughes (ahughes@khps.org).

Homework Hub
This past week we began the "Homework Hub". The last 15 minutes of our 1st block and the beginning of our 2nd block each day has given some time for teachers to check in with students for that class. This has given the students and teachers some built in time to get some extra help or to redo assignments or to get caught up from an
absence. Again, this will happen in every class, every day in hopes that more students will be on
pace and learning at the level of understanding. Please reach out if you have any questions.

Be Nice Blast
The Be Nice Blast talks about the importance of giving up unhealthy coping mechanisms and encourages you to challenge yourself to give up something for 21 days. Take the challenge!

Face Covering required at all MHSAA Events
Face coverings are required at all times when in attendance at any middle or high school event per the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS). This applies to both home and away games. Refusal to wear a face covering can lead to dismissal from the
game/facility. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

WINTER SPORTS REQUIREMENTS

2020-2021
The MHSAA has waived the pre-participation physical requirements for students who received a valid physical for sports during the 2019-20 school year (one completed on or after APRIL 15, 2019) for the upcoming 2020-2021 school year.

Students and their parents/guardians will be required to complete the two-page MHSAA ANNUAL SPORTS HEALTH
QUESTIONNAIRE found on the MHSSA website, attached to this newsletter and in the Athletic Office at the High School. Athletes will still be required to get a pink Permission to Practice slip from the athletic office to give to their coaches in order to participate in a school sponsored sport. The other requirements will still be in place
in order to obtain a pink slip:

  • the participation fee of $85.00 (waived for those whose annual family income determines they meet the guidelines to receive free or reduced lunch. This is not the same as the free lunch provided to all students through the end of the year)
  • the Spectrum Health Medical Consent to Treat form filled out completely and on file in our office (if your child did a fall sport in 2020, we have this form for the current school year)

If an athlete did not have a physical on file this year with our office, athletes will be required to get a physical in order to participate during the 2020-2021 school year. The physical form must be on file with our office. Physicals/Pink Slips are required prior to the first day of practice and/or tryouts for a winter sport, 2021.

There will be additional information forthcoming regarding practices, workouts and participation in a winter high school sport. Bowling, Wrestling, Cheer, Gymnastics, Girls Basketball all currently have sign ups in the Athletic Office.
Please contact Vicki Bekins, vbekins@khps.org or 616-784-2115 with questions.

AP TESTING-Important Info
Due to the Covid 19 Pandemic, for the current school year of 2020-21 College Board is waiving the cost of unused AP Tests to High Schools around the country. What this means to Kenowa Hills AP Students and Families is there will not be a deposit required at this time to reserve a test for Spring 2021! A single payment in Spring 2021 will be
collected. Please see the information that was emailed home.

REDEFINED

Our Personal Mastery educational experience has redefined education and has gained attention around the state and nation. Personal Mastery provides your child with personalized attention from teachers. Instead of teaching to a broad group of students without understanding of their individual strengths and weaknesses, Personal Mastery allows teachers to interact with students individually or in small groups to help them better address their weaknesses.
